講座人簡介:David Stein, Ph.D., is an associate professor of adult and distanceeducation at The Ohio State University College of Education and Human EcologyDepartment of Educational Studies, Section on Workforce Development andEducation. In his current position, Dr. Stein, directs the minor in VirtualTeaching and develops online courses with a focus on the virtual classroom andadult learning. His main area of interest investigates how distance learningtechnologies can enhance and improve the design and delivery of online learningexperiences. Dr. Stein’s research has focused primarily on how online learning opportunities canbe distributed to learners using technology to promote excellence in higherorder thinking. His work also focuses on professional development of faculty tobecome online instructors. Dr. Stein is currently investigating the use ofmini-moocs to deliver content in bothcredit and non-credit bearing courses.
Dr. Stein has been recognized and regarded throughout the highereducation community as a lead developer of institutional online and distancelearning. In 2014 Prof Stein received the finalist award for his work on“boot camp for the new online instructor”from the National University Technology Network. In 2013, The AmericanAssociation for Adult and Continuing Education presented Prof. Stein with theImogene Oakes Award for Outstanding Research in Adult Education. His researchwork was also recognized by the National University Technology Network for the2012 with an award for Best Research Paper. In addition, his research ondistance learning has been recognized by the leading association for distanceeducation, the Annual Conference on Distance Teaching and Learning, Universityof Wisconsin-Madison, receiving the 2012 Shauna Schullo Award for Best DistanceTeaching Practices. Dr. Stein also received a highly regarded Impact Award fromthe Office of Distance Education and E-Learning to develop a campus wideprogram to prepare graduate teaching assistants and staff as online instructorsusing a MOOC like format.
As an advocate for quality in online learning in higher education,Professor Stein serves as Certified Master Reviewer for The Ohio StateUniversity and promotes the use of the Quality Matters Rubric. His new book“Jump-Start Your Online Classroom: Mastering Five Challenges in Five Dayswill be published Aug. 2017.
